Oceania is a vast, arbitrarily defined expanse of the world where the Pacific Ocean – rather than land borders – connects the nations. It is home to glistening white beaches, coconut palms swaying in the breeze, beautiful coral reefs, and rugged volcanic islands rising out of the blue ocean. Its diverse nations have both some of the world’s most cosmopolitan and internationalised cities such as Melbourne, and some of its most remote and culturally isolated villages.

Australia, New Zealand and Papua New Guinea are by far the largest countries on these lands that comprise southern Oceania, with the first two the most visited. Within Oceania are the vast island nation groupings of Polynesia to the far east, Melanesia to the west and Micronesia to the north.

Regions

  • Australia
By far the largest and most populous country in Oceania.
  • New Zealand
A major destination, with well-developed acommodations for travellers. Technically part of Polynesia as the indigenous Maori are Polynesian and providing the major air hub to the rest of Polynesia.
  • Papua New Guinea
Tropical rainforest, great scenery and culture. An adventurous, rarely visited, travel destination.
  • Polynesia
No other name quite conjures up images of paradise like this one. Stunning paradisical islands sprawling for thousands of miles across the remote South Pacific.
  • Melanesia
Closely related to the ethno-cultural makeup of the oft-included Papua New Guinea, Melanesia is home to the always popular destination of Fiji.
  • Micronesia
The tiny Micronesian islands fall on or north of the Equator, and see less tourist and business travel than the rest of the island groupings. If looking for a unique, mystical, beautiful destination, aim for Palau and its popular Rock Islands. Kayak tours and enthusiasts enjoy this area, and the caves accessed from the waterside.

Oceania Tourist Attractions

  • Abel Tasman National Park — great treks through forests, hills and beaches
  • Aitutaki — the classic picture postcard of a palm tree fringed tropical island with turquoise waters
  • Bay of Islands — pretty spot in New Zealand with historical significance
  • Bora Bora — the most beautiful lagoon of French Polynesia, but incredibly pricey
  • Coral Coast — amazing white sand beaches and palm trees
  • Great Barrier Reef — the largest coral formation in the world, great for diving
  • Moorea — budget alternative to Bora Bora with beautiful scenery
  • Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park — iconic rock formations in the middle of the Outback
  • Vava’u — group of more than 50 islands in Tonga, a common destination for yachts

Australia and New Zealand are both former British colonies. At one time it was envisaged that the two colonies would become a single country. In the past, Papua New Guinea was a United Nations trusteeship, administered by Australia. Various islands have been annexed by Britain, Spain, Portugal, Germany, France, Australia and the United States.

The presence of all of these cultures has created an influence on aspects of culture norms and development. In many areas at least one, often more indigenous languages, and the languages of one or more of the colonial powers, are spoken by the majority as people have coexisted or joined with the influx of other cultures. This mix has influenced cuisine, architecture and other facets of culture.

Europe Travel Guide

Europe encompasses an area of 10,180,000km² (3,930,000 square miles), stretching from Asia to the Atlantic, and from Africa to the Arctic. European countries welcome more than 480 million international visitors per year, more than half of the global market, and 7 of the 10 most visited countries are European nations.

London-England-United-Kingdom-Vacation-Rentals-Holiday-Lettings

It’s easy to see why – a well preserved cultural heritage, open borders and efficient infrastructure makes visiting Europe a breeze, and rarely will you have to travel more than a few hours before you can immerse yourself in a new culture, and dive into a different phrasebook. Although it is the world’s smallest continent in land surface area, there are profound differences between the cultures and ways of life in its countries.

The eastern border of Europe, for instance, is not well defined. The Caucausus states are sometimes considered part of Asia due to geography, and much of Russia and almost all of Turkey are geographically Asian. The UK, Ireland and Iceland all manage to sneak in.

Must-visits include France, Italy, Germany, Spain, and the United Kingdom. Don’t let your sense of adventure fail you by missing out on Scandinavia, Greece, Hungary, Poland, Portugal or the microstates of Andorra, Liechtenstein and Luxembourg. For a more exotic European adventure, be sure to tour the Balkans.

Many European countries are members of the European Union (EU), which has its own currency (the Euro) and laws. There are no border controls between signatory countries of the Schengen Agreement (only at the outside borders). Note that not all EU members adopted the Schengen Agreement (open borders) or the Euro, and not all countries that adopted Schengen or Euro are European Union members. Confusing? Just wait!

The best time to visit Europe

The best time to visit Europe is in the summer. In August, the British Isles, Benelux, Germany and northern France have average highs of around 23-24°C, but these temperatures cannot be taken for granted. That’s why in the summer many flights go from northern to southern Europe as northerners flee the rain and possible lower than average temperatures. The Mediterranean has the highest amount of sun-hours in Europe, and the highest temperatures. Highest average temperatures in August are 26°C in Budapest, 28°C in Barcelona, 30°C in Rome, 33°C in Athens and 39°C in Alanya along the Turkish Riviera. A general rule is that the further south and east one goes, the warmer it becomes.

Winters are relatively cold in Europe, even in the Mediterranean countries. The only areas with daily highs around 15°C in January are Andalucia in Spain, some Greek Islands, Sicily in southern Italy, Malta and the Turkish Riviera. Western Europe has an average of around 4-8°C in January, but temperatures drop below freezing throughout the winter. Regions east of Berlin have particularly cold temperatures with average highs below freezing. Russia is an exceptional case as Moscow and Saint Petersburg have average highs of -5°C and lows of -10°C in January. Some activities are best done in the winter, such as winter sports in the Alps. The highest peaks of the Alps have perpetual snow.

Asia Travel Guide

Asia is the world’s largest continent by land area and population, home to 4.4 billion people; more than half of the world’s population.

The continent is too massive and diverse to conceptualize as a single digestible travel “destination”. Travel options range widely, from the desert ruins and modern mega-malls of the Middle East to the magnificent ancient monuments and giant mountains in South Asia, from the beach bungalows and jungle treks of Southeast Asia to the mega-cities and technology capitals of East Asia.

Asia gets a tremendous number of travellers, both for tourism and business. Many of the world’s most-visited cities are in Asia, including Bangkok, Dubai, Singapore, Kuala Lumpur, Istanbul, Tokyo, Seoul, Hong Kong, Taipei, Osaka and Shanghai.

Asia offers intriguing destinations for every type of traveller, be they a novice or experienced road-warrior. Easier options include modern, prosperous countries like Japan and the East Asian Tigers of Singapore, Hong Kong, Taiwan and South Korea, where people enjoy very high standards of living. There are also extremely poor Asian countries, where people struggle even to get a few grains of rice each day, such as Cambodia, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Laos and East Timor. Some countries are well-established on the budget tourist trail, including Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia, but there are other countries that strictly restrict tourism to certain regions or types of tourism, such as Bhutan and the Maldives. North Korea and Turkmenistan, easily the world’s most isolated and repressive states, take it even further, with constantly-watched group tours dedicated to their “great leaders”. Of course, there are also many countries lying somewhere in the middle, which is where one might place the emerging powerhouses of China and India; those huge, populous lands make wonderful travel destinations in themselves due to their long history, traditions and diversity.

Cambodia-Cheap-Vacation-Rentals-Holiday-Lettings

Top Tourist Attractions in Asia

While all continents have a huge number of things to see, what sets Asia is apart is the incredible variety of things to see. From the desolate Siberian tundra and taiga in the far north to colorful Indian street scenes, from ruins along the Silk Road to glitzy, futuristic metropolises and from the camels in the Arabian Desert to the Komodo dragons roaming the jungles of Flores, it is safe to say that Asia has something for everyone.

Great-Wall-China-Vacation-Rentals

Stretching from the Arctic all the way beyond the Equator, Asia is home to virtually every kind of climate and ecosystem that exists in the world and a corresponding number of different plants and animals. Almost all parts of Asia feature iconic animals, such as pandas, brown bears, tigers, monkeys, elephants, crocodiles, camels, and birds – though many of them are threatened in the wild. While north and central Asia is part of the palearctic region, south and southeast Asia makes up the Indomalayan region. There is also no lack of amazing landscapes either. Vast boreal forests cover the northern part of the continent interspersed by some of the longest rivers in the world. Further south, Asia is dominated by an enormous system of mountain chains reaching from the highlands of Turkey across Iran, Pakistan and Central Asia into China where it forks into a northern section including the Altai mountains and continuing all the way through the Russian Far East, and into a more southerly section including Himalayas, which feature the world’s highest summits, and then the highlands of Southeast Asia. Many mountains in the easternmost parts of the continent are volcanic, and Indonesia and Kamchatka are indeed great destinations for volcanic tourism. Central Asia features steppe, which turns into desert when traveling south, and if you’ve always wanted to experience a desert environment, the Middle East is definitely a good choice. Another large desert is the Gobi at the borders of Mongolia and China. Finally, tropical Asia covering a part of East and most of South and Southeast Asia, where not cultivated or urbanized, is dominated by various kinds of tropical forests and thousands of beaches ranging from secluded paradise islands like the Maldives to some of the world’s most popular beach resorts in Thailand.

Home to more than half of the world’s population, the birthplace of all major world religions and using all the most widespread writing systems in the world, the different peoples and cultures you may encounter on this continent are likely even more varied than the landscapes. Almost all regions of Asia have ruins of some of the oldest civilizations in the world, often stretching back several millenia. The Holy Land of the Abrahamic religions can be found in the Middle East. Similarly, the Indian subcontinent is the wellspring of Hinduism and Buddhism, and East Asia of Confucianism and Shintoism among others. Asia also bears witness to the spread of the great religions in the form of amazing religious architecture, including the ancient tombs and houses of worship in Angkor Wat, Borobudur, Samarkand, the Taj Mahal and countless thousands of others. There are also other kinds of historical sites such as the Great Wall, Petra, Ayutthaya and the royal and imperial palaces of both present and past dynasties. Even in the latter case the royal traditions may be experienced as in the royal change of guards at the Gyeongbokgung Palace in Seoul.

South America Travel Guide

South America is a continent nestled between the Caribbean, the South Pacific, and the South Atlantic Oceans. It is the wilder part of the Americas and a continent of superlatives.

The world’s biggest rainforest and the largest river (Amazon), the highest mountain range outside Asia (the Andes), remote islands (Galapagos Islands, Easter Island and Fernando de Noronha), heavenly beaches (such as in Brazil’s Northeastern region), wide deserts (Atacama), icy landscapes (Patagonia & Tierra del Fuego), the world’s tallest waterfall (the 979m Angel Falls, in Venezuela) and one of the largest (Iguacu Falls, Argentina and Brazil), as well as several other breathtaking natural attractions.

Buenos-Aires-Argentina-Vacation-Rentals-Holiday-Lettings

Humans have left their mark on the continent too: from ancient ruins (Machu Picchu and other Inca cities; the Moai in Easter Island) and the oldest rock paintings in the Americas (at the Serra da Capivara) to world-class metropolises (Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires, Bogota, Caracas, Santiago, Lima and Rio de Janeiro), outstanding modern and European architecture (Brasilia, Buenos Aires), and charming cities built in the Andes (Caracas, Medellin, Quito, Santiago de Chile). Strong African heritage (in Salvador, Rio and Montevideo), genuine indigenous culture (Belem, Manaus, Cuzco, Lima, La Paz), and Eastern influence (Sao Paulo’s enormous Japanese community) mingle with the fingerprints of Iberian colonizers. Ushuaia, the world’s southernmost city, and some of its biggest festivities, such as Rio’s Carnival and Belem’s Cirio de Nazare, the Tango World Championship, and the Vendimia festival in Argentina, are also part of this incredibly diverse and attractive continent.

Brazil-Vacation-Rentals-Holiday-Lettings

Top Tourist Attractions in South America

  • The Andes – The world’s longest mountain range, and the highest outside of Asia.
  • Canaima National Park – Its main attraction are the Angel Falls, at 978 m the highest waterfall on Earth.
  • Easter Island – An isolated Polynesian island famous for its mysterious history and giant stone statues.
  • Galapagos Islands – Isolated islands with unique wildlife: this is where Darwin saw the evidence for natural selection.
  • Iguacu Falls – Breathtaking waterfalls on the border between Argentina and Brazil.
  • Machu Picchu – High in the mountains, the lost city of the Incas is a spectacular set of ruins.
  • The Pantanal – Large wetlands with diverse wildlife.
  • Salar de Uyuni – Bolivia’s seemingly endless salt flats.
  • Tierra del Fuego – Islands at the tip of South America, with rugged scenery, boat trips, and winter activities.

A sizable number of the world’s largest, longest or highest natural wonders are located in South America. Perhaps the first thing you will notice when looking on a map of the continent is the world’s largest rainforest, the Amazon, covering much of Brazil. Moreover it also features the world’s largest wetlands, Pantanal, Angel Falls, the world’s highest waterfall as well as the better known Iguacu Falls. Other bodies of water worth mentioning include the Amazon river (by some measures the world’s longest river and the one with the largest drainage basin), the world’s highest commercially navigable body of water Lake Titicaca, and the wide Rio de la Plata (between Uruguay and Argentina) which is more like a bay of the Atlantic Ocean.

In the west lies the “backbone” of the continent — the Andes. This mountain chain, which is the longest in the world, contains Aconcagua which at a height of almost 7000m is the highest mountain outside Asia. As the Earth is at its thickest at the Equator, the peak of Chimborazo (6268m) is the point in the world furthest away from the center of the Earth. Right next to these mighty mountains lays the Atacama desert which is the driest and possibly oldest in the world. The white spot in it that can be seen on satellite footage is the Salar de Uyuni. Located at 3,656m above the sea level it is — you guessed it — the world’s largest salt flat.

The Galapagos Islands 1000km off the coast feature an unique and fearless fauna (see Galapagos wildlife). There are several iconic and unique animals on the mainland too (see South and Central American wildlife), including llamas and other camelids, jaguars, capybaras, opossums and monkeys and on the other hand less pleasant creatures that are poisonous or spread tropical diseases. Another, equally famous island in the Pacific is Easter Island.

While most people would think of South America as rainforest or desert, this is mostly but not entirely true — Los Glaciares National Park in southwestern Argentina will prove otherwise. Overall the climate and landscape of the far south actually recalls Norway or parts of Canada. Here you can find Ushuaia, the world’s southernmost city and a gateway to Antarctica. South America also holds the record for the world’s highest national capital La Paz, and at Chacaltaya you will find the world’s highest located ski resort.

It’s certainly not only in modern times that people have lived and worked in the Andes even at altitudes where you are likely to contract altitude sickness. Particularly in Peru and Bolivia, you will find many beautiful and famous archaeological sites from the age before the Europeans, connected by pre-Columbian Inca Trails if you want to get around the traditional way. Among them the most famous is undoubtedly Machu Picchu, but places like Chan Chan and Tiwanaku are also deservedly inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage List. Peru also features the Nazca lines, constructed 1500 years ago for an unknown purpose and only visible from air.

The European heritage includes mining towns in the mountains, unsurprisingly a lot of churches and missions and other colonial architecture along the coasts. Of course, in places like Sao Paulo, Buenos Aires and Santiago de Chile you can also see skyscrapers archetypical to any metropolis in the world. And let’s not forget about Rio de Janeiro with its world-famous beaches Copacabana and Ipanema with the Sugarloaf mountain, Pao de Acucar, in the background.

South America offers a variety of cultural experiences. In the Andes, native traditions and languages still live strong. The east and south of the continent is more of a blend of cultures that immigrants from Europe, Africa and other parts of the world have brought with them; probably the best example of this is the Brazilian carnival.

North America Travel Guide

North America is the third largest continent, with a surface area of 24,221,490 km2 (9,351,969 sq mi), in the northern hemisphere, between the Pacific Ocean and the Atlantic Ocean and to the north of South America. North America‘s highest point is Alaska’s Denali, which rises to 6,194 m (20,322 ft) above sea level.

North America consists of three large nations and one large island territory that covers most of its area. They are Canada, the United States of America (U.S.), Mexico and Greenland. There are also seven smaller nations at its southern extreme (collectively known as Central America), around two dozen island nations and territories of various sizes in the Caribbean, and one isolated French territory off the Canadian Atlantic coast. Although the Central American and the Caribbean regions are part of the North American continent, they are commonly listed separately from their larger neighbors to the north and hence the distinctive region names for cultural and geographical reasons.

The range of things to see in North America is enormous. There is spectacular natural scenery ranging from mountains and tundra to deserts and tropical rain forests. The Rocky Mountains (Rockies) are the continent’s largest mountain range, running from northern Canada to the southwestern United States. The Rockies contain some of the world’s most visited national parks including the famous Yellowstone. North American cities like New York City, Chicago, and Washington, DC are home to some of the world’s finest museums. Stunning architecture can be found from Panama City to Montreal.

North American wildlife, with iconic species such as the grizzly, the bison, the mustang and the bald eagle, is an attraction in itself. The tropics belong to another biogeographic region.

Basically any activity imaginable is possible in North America. Major cities have a wide variety of attractions, including museums, amusement parks, concerts, and sporting events. Smaller cities and towns generally have at least a few things to do, though often with less availability than larger centres, but even smaller towns will often have a bar with occasional live music, a minor-league sports team, and/or a small museum somewhere.

Rural areas span every climate from frozen tundra to scorching desert, and pleasant meadows to the Rocky Mountains. Trails, lakes, rivers, and outright wilderness are all fairly accessible, but the exact sort of landscape will vary immensely across the continent.

Africa Travel Guide

Africa is the wellspring of the human race. The second largest continent in the world in both area and population, it offers the visitor a unique blend of natural wonders, renowned prehistoric sites, numerous and often sprawling remains of several of the world’s greatest ancient civilizations, vibrant cultures, remote villages and modern cities. Africa has shorelines on the Indian Ocean to the southeast, the Atlantic Ocean to the west, the Red Sea to the northeast, the Gulf of Aden slightly further south, and the Mediterranean Sea to the north. This huge continent is more than 8,000 km (5,000 mi) across north-south and 7,500 km (4,800 mi) east-west with some islands even further out and contains many vastly different peoples, religions, and cultures. Africa has 55 sovereign countries—the most of any continent.

Africa contains arguably the longest river in the world—the 6,650 km-long (over 4,100 mi) Nile River running from Burundi to Egypt—while the Congo River in the DR Congo is the second largest in terms of discharge, and the deepest with a depth of over 230 m (750 ft) in some spots. Tanzania’s Mount Kilimanjaro is the world’s tallest free-standing mountain at 5,890 m (19,340 ft). Djibouti’s Lake Assal is the second lowest point on Earth, the saltiest lake outside Antarctica, and one of the hottest places on Earth. While the first activity most people associate with Africa is safaris, there are endless possibilities for adventure. For example, you can purchase crafts in markets, venture into the Sahara with a Tuareg caravan, visit BaAka (“Pygmy”) villages, hike through jungle to watch gorillas, relax on tropical islands in the Indian Ocean, snack on exotic treats, paddle down a river in a dugout pirogue or travel across savanna on a colonial-era railway.

Africa‘s cultural diversity cannot be overstated — most countries are internally diverse and there are huge differences between the Muslim countries in the north with their Arab- and Berber-influenced cultures and the Sub-Saharan nations, including the rainbow nation of South Africa that has strong European influences in addition to Bantu and other African traditions. It is also the continent with the largest genetic diversity among the population by far: There is far more genetic diversity among Africans than there is between Africans and inhabitants of any other continent. Despite what lacking media coverage might have led you to believe, Africa is not one country but 55 different countries, making it impossible to make generalisations about “all of Africa“. Also, due to the nature of colonial borders, most African countries are anything but homogeneous (for example, South Africa has 11 official languages), and culture, cuisine, language or even the dominant religion may change dramatically within a few hundred kilometers without ever crossing a border.

Despite rapidly growing economies in many places, there are still many pockets of poverty in both the Maghreb and Sub-Saharan Africa. While poverty, corruption, and ethnic and religious violence exist in some parts of the continent, large parts of Africa have made impressive progress in recent times, with many cities that have growing middle classes and deal with problems such as traffic jams or crowded public transport, rather than the war or famine you might have heard about in some 1980s documentary or development aid commercial.

The best time to visit Africa

The climate of Africa ranges from tropical to subarctic on its highest peaks. Its northern half is primarily desert, or arid, while its central and southern areas contain both savanna plains and dense jungle (rainforest) regions. In between, there is a convergence, where vegetation patterns such as sahel and steppe dominate. Africa is the hottest continent on earth and 60% of the entire land surface consists of drylands and deserts.

Xian China Launches Flower City Project, Adding 6 million m2 Of Gardens to Central District

China‘s Historical Center to Reproduce Garden View from Ancient Times.

Xi’an, one of the oldest cities in China and once an imperial city during the periods of the Sui and Tang dynasties 1,300 years ago, has launched a “Flower City” project to build a system of flower-lined streets, gardens and paths, as well as flower-filled galleries and fields to recreate an ancient flourish and beautiful sight-seeing experience for both residents and tourists.

Xian China Launches Flower City Project

With a total of 15,220 kilometers of greenways planned, the project will add gardens that cover more than 6 million m2 and greenways of more than 500 kilometers with 50 flower-lined streets. Major construction projects include 6 theme parks, 2 heritage parks and tens of street gardens by 2019.

According to Li Pingwei, Director of the Xi’an Urban Management and Law Enforcement Bureau, the projects aims not only to shape a green city through significantly improving the coverage of flowers and plants, but also to reproduce the charm of flower appreciation in ancient times in which tourists and citizens can enjoy an all-year blossom season in town. “This is a key project for Xi’an in 2019 and we look forward to delivering it through infrastructure and decoration projects. Xi’an was the starting point of the famous Silk Road. Centuries ago, it was one of the largest cities in the world. Thousands of international traders and merchants gathered to this promising land full of green and fortune. We would like to recreate the ecosystem of that day for guests from all around the world so that they can find a combination of history of modern elements here,” Li said.

Centered in the ancient city area and expanded to the new town, the project will cover both functional and leisure areas from highways and roads around hotels to parks and local communities, framing an open and diverse city with multiple ecosystems. Through this project, Xi’an will be transferred into a colorful city where avenues, parks and paths are designed based on plant color, smell, size and season and are differentiated on a regional basis, forming distinctive landscapes.

In addition, green industries will be involved along with public engagement, including the introduction of a flower industry to the city. Residents will have a 15-minute access to the greenways upon project completion. Tourists and citizens will be offered flower viewing maps so that they can plan their visits accordingly.

About Xi’an
The capital of China‘s western Shaanxi province, Xi’an is an international tourist destination with over 3,000 years of history and world-renowned attractions such as the Terracotta Warriors and Horses and its ancient City Wall. The city, dubbed “China‘s outdoor museum,” was the starting point of the Silk Road, an ancient network of trade routes established during China‘s Han Dynasty that linked the East and the West in commerce.
